Melissa and Brad’s Story: Delivery Close To Home

Melissa and Brad Bernard chose Upper Valley Medical Center (UVMC) to have their first child. Being residents of Piqua, it was the most convenient. They also had heard of friends who had great experiences at UVMC, so the choice was easy and logical. Their first-born had some complications and received care through UVMC’s Level II Special Care Nursery (UVMC Maternity Center closed as of February 21, 2024).

“He spent nine days there. We’re glad we chose UVMC,” Melissa says.

When Melissa learned she was expecting the couple’s second child, they knew they wanted to return to Upper Valley Medical Center. Little Lindsay decided to arrive six weeks early. Once again, the Bernards were happy they chose UVMC because of the confidence they had in the staff and technology at a maternity center close to home.

Melissa had a more difficult labor with her daughter and ended up having a C-section. Lindsay also spent time in the Special Care Nursery. The couple was kept abreast of everything going on by the staff, who managed to calm them and educate them at the same time.

“The nurses at Upper Valley are beyond the call of duty. I’d recommend Upper Valley to anyone,” Brad says.
