MVH Heart Orthopedic Tower Recognized for Design Excellence
Miami Valley Hospital’s Heart and Orthopedic Tower has earned another honor for excellence in design. Vendome Group, the Center for Health Design, and the International Interior Design Association recognized the new building’s design in the 12th Annual Architecture and Interior Design Showcase sponsored by Healthcare Design magazine.
A panel of 35 design professionals selected two “Citation of Merit” winners from a field of 107: MVH’s tower and a building project at Massachusetts General Hospital. Both projects were designed by the architecture firm NBBJ.
MVH’s Heart and Orthopedic Tower, Which is the new “front door” to the hospital, opened in January 2011. They 12-story building features 178 private patient rooms and was designed to consolidate all heart care services.
This is the fifth design honor the new tower has earned. Other awards include:
- Bentley Be Inspired Award for Innovation in Building in 2009
- AIA Ohio Merit Award in 2011
- Modern Healthcare Design Award of Excellence in 2011
- AIA Columbus Merit Award in 2011
The tower was recognized for its green construction and earned LEED* Silver Certification soon after it opened. - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
Robotic Surgery Education Center Opens at MVH
The Brethen Center for Surgical Advancement in Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery opened this fall at Miami Valley Hospital. An initiative of Premier Health Partners, the new center will explore potential applications of the two related technologies and educate physicians and allied medical staff on their use.
The center was made possible by a generous gift from Robert H. Brethen, chairman and CEO of Celstar Group, Inc., a Dayton-based holding company.
