Home Sleep Studies: What to Expect
A home sleep study is a sleep test that the you can take in the comfort of your own bed. If you are interested and you qualify, you can take your sleep study in the comfort of your own bedroom. You’ll be trained to use the equipment, you’ll test yourself and bring the equipment back the next day. Within one to two weeks, you’ll receive feedback on whether you have a sleep disorder. After that, you may need to schedule additional testing and follow-up.
CPAP Studies: What to Expect
A CPAP study is similar to a sleep study. This test is done after you have had a sleep study and have been told you have sleep apnea. The main difference is that you are asked to sleep with a mask over your nose that is hooked up to a CPAP machine. The mask sends a constant flow of air to the back of the throat. The pressure changes as needed through the night until your apnea and snoring stop.
After you have had your CPAP study, a respiratory therapist will call you and set up a time to give you your CPAP machine and go over what you need to know. You’ll come back to the sleep center after using your machine for one month. It’s important that you bring your CPAP machine with you for this visit. At that time, your doctor checks how you are doing with the treatment.
