Nursing Graduate Student Clinical Placement Program

Clinical placements are an essential element of students’ graduate education, providing them with an opportunity to apply the concepts, care methods, and care coordination principles they learn in the classroom to direct work with patients. Clinical rotations allow a chance to assume the role of an autonomous provider, while still benefiting from the supervision and guidance of a preceptor.

The Nursing Graduate Student Program assists the roles of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The APRN encompasses four roles: certified nurse midwife (CNM), certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), clinical nurse specialist (CNS), and nurse practitioner (NP). In addition to APRNs and the Nursing Graduate Student Program assists RNs who are seeking an advanced nursing graduate degree such as MSN or DNP and would like to do their clinical hours at a Premier location.

The Nursing Graduate Program coordinator maintains oversight of the required student documents for clinical placement and ensures all necessary forms are up-to-date and accurate prior to student placement at a Premier facility.

Premier Health reserves the right to limit the number of clinical experiences available to each student. Additionally, some clinical specialties are in high demand and have limited clinical placement opportunities, including pediatrics, women's health, and mental health. As a result, placement in these areas may not always be possible.

Current Premier Health employees will receive priority consideration for clinical placement; however, placement is not guaranteed.

At this time, Women's Health placement requests are only being accepted for Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) students. Requests for Women's Health placements from other programs will not be considered. Please do not submit preceptor requests for Women's Health unless the student is enrolled in a CNM program.

Premier Health is not accepting placement requests for Pediatric or Mental Health clinical experiences at this time. Please do not submit preceptor requests for these specialties, as they will not be considered.

What to Do If You Have Already Found a Preceptor at Premier Health

Please complete the Graduate Nursing Student Onboarding Form to start the paperwork process. This information must be submitted no later than 8 weeks prior to the clinical rotation start date. If information is submitted late, this may delay the start of your clinical rotation.

Please check with your school’s clinical placement coordinator to find out if your school has a current clinical placement contract with Premier Health. If your school does not have a current affiliation agreement contract in place with Premier Health, this process may take much longer.

What to Expect

After submitting your information, you will receive a confirmation email and further instructions for student placement at Premier Health.
