Professional Interests: Emergency Medicine and Critical Care

Why this program: Miami Valley Hospital, a level I Trauma, Comprehensive Stroke, and Burn center, provides the highest care for patients surrounding the Dayton area. The program offers a variety of rotations including Neurocritical care, cardiology, and hematology/oncology.  Additionally, the opportunity to elect to advanced training in areas such as emergency medicine and in critical care as electives will ultimately assist me in my future career goals.   My desire to pursue a career in critical care or emergency medicine made Miami Valley an excellent place to learn and practice at the top of my license.

Post Residency Plans: I plan to pursue a PGY2 in critical care.

Colin Smith, PharmD

Professional Interests: Critical Care and Emergency Medicine

Why this program: Miami Valley Hospital serves as the only Level I trauma center in the Dayton metro area, allowing pharmacy residents to gain valuable experiences in several unique critical care areas of practice, and serving many different patient populations. The welcoming attitude of pharmacy preceptors and staff made me excited to continue further clinical training.

Post Residency Plans: I plan to become Board-Certified in Pharmacotherapy and pursue further PGY2 training.

Why this program: I chose Miami Valley Hospital because of the institution’s renowned excellence in Critical Care and Infectious Disease, the diverse team of preceptors, and encouraging work environment that this pharmacy residency program has to offer. 

Post Residency plans: I plan to become Board-Certified in Pharmacotherapy and pursue a career as a clinical pharmacist.
