Hip and Knee Services

Hip or knee pain can make simple tasks a real challenge. We want to help you overcome your pain to improve your mobility and quality of life.

That’s why our dedicated team of hip and knee specialists takes the time to learn the underlying causes of your pain. First, we’ll explore non-surgical treatment options to reduce or eliminate your pain. These may include:

Our goal is to treat you quickly and effectively to get you back to your daily routine.

If your hip or knee pain doesn’t respond to non-surgical treatment, we’ll explore other options with you.

Hip and Knee Surgery

Our experienced team of hip and knee specialists routinely uses advanced surgical techniques to eliminate pain as we work to get you back to the activities you love as quickly and safely as possible.

These hip conditions often require surgery to eliminate pain:

These knee conditions often require surgery to eliminate pain:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Torn ligament
  • Meniscus and ACL tears
  • Injuries to the patellar/quadriceps tendon

Minimally Invasive Procedures

In some cases, minimally invasive surgical options, including arthroscopy, may be available. Such options enable your surgeon to inspect, diagnose and repair problems inside your hip or knee with just a few small incisions.

In these procedures your surgeon inserts a tiny camera, called an arthroscope, into your hip or knee through a small incision. The camera displays pictures on a television screen, and your surgeon uses these images to guide surgical instruments through other small incisions to make the necessary repair.

Minimally invasive procedures typically have important benefits:

  • Less pain
  • Faster recovery
  • Less scarring
  • Less blood loss

Premier Health specializes in a minimally invasive treatment for a dislocated sacroiliac joint. Located in the hip, the joint links the pelvis to the lower spine just above the tailbone. When the joint is injured, it can cause ongoing instability that is naturally painful. This frequently missed or misdiagnosed condition can be treated at Premier Health with an iFuse Implant System®. The procedure eliminates the excessive motion that causes pain while enabling bone growth across the joint.

Hip and Knee Replacement

Some joint conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and past injuries can cause the bone and cartilage in your hips or knees to wear away. In these instances, full or partial joint replacement surgery may be the best option to resolve your pain.

Outcomes of joint replacement surgery have been shown to be more successful when patients and their family or support person is fully prepared. That’s why we require those requiring a knee replacement or hip replacement to take our joint replacement class. You’ll learn what to expect and how to prepare. The class will be taught by your orthopedic navigator, who will guide you before and after surgery, and call you once you leave the hospital.

Robotic-Arm Assisted Joint Replacement

Premier Health offers advanced robotic-arm assisted knee and hip replacement procedures, using ROSA® Knee and Mako SmartRobotics™, so your surgeon can create a customized plan based on your unique anatomy for a more predictable, precise surgery.

ROSA® Knee For Knee Replacement

How It Works

Before your surgery, with ROSA® (Robotic Surgical Assistant) Knee, a series of X-rays may be used to create a 3D model of your knee anatomy. This 3D model will enable your surgeon to plan many specifics of your knee replacement prior to surgery.

During your procedure, ROSA Knee serves as your surgeon’s robotic assistant. ROSA Knee uses a camera and optical trackers attached to your leg to know exactly where your knee is in space. If your leg moves even a fraction of an inch, the robot can tell and adjusts accordingly. This helps ensure that the plan your surgeon put into place is executed as intended. Throughout your surgery, ROSA Knee provides your surgeon with data about your knee. This information, combined with your surgeon’s skill, helps your doctor know how to position your implant based on your unique anatomy.

How It Helps Patients

Getting a precise knee implant fit is important to your comfort and overall experience following knee replacement surgery. ROSA Knee uses data collected before and during surgery to inform your surgeon of many details related to your unique anatomy that may affect your implant fit. By using this data to make more informed decisions, your surgeon is able to plan for and carry out a personalized surgery based upon your individual needs.

Mako SmartRobotics™ For Knee And Hip Replacement

How It Works

Mako SmartRobotics™ combines three key components — 3D CT-based planning, AccuStop™ haptic technology, and insightful data analytics — into one platform that has shown better outcomes for patients needing total knee, total hip, and partial knee replacements.

Before surgery, your surgeon can use the Mako System to create a personalized surgical plan and identify the desired implant size, orientation, and alignment based on your unique anatomy. During surgery, the Mako System enables your surgeon to make any needed adjustments while guiding the robotic arm to execute the plan.

How It Helps Patients

Mako SmartRobotics™ helps surgeons know more and cut less. In clinical studies, Mako SmartRobotics™ for Total Knee has been associated with less pain, less need for opioid pain medication and inpatient physical therapy, reduction in length of hospital stay, improved knee flexion, and greater soft tissue protection in comparison to manual techniques. In clinical studies, Mako Total Hip resulted in more accurate placement and alignment of hip implants based on the surgical plan, less likelihood of hip dislocation, reduced blood loss, replication of the feeling of a natural hip, and preservation of healthy bone.
