Psychology
If you or a loved one is seeking help for behavioral or mental health problems, our psychologists at Premier Health have advanced training in understanding the human mind and human behavior. We are committed to finding solutions to improve your mental health and are skilled in assessing thinking skills following head injury, or signs of dementia, such as memory or language problems.
A major difference between psychology and psychiatry is that a psychologist’s training focuses on both the normal and abnormal workings of the human mind. Psychiatry, on the other hand, is a branch of medicine that focuses on mental illness. Psychiatrists can diagnose both mental and physical disorders that contribute to a behavioral health disorder and prescribe medicine to treat various mental illnesses. Our psychologists do not prescribe medicine. Rather, we focus on:
- Talk therapy (psychotherapy) for conditions such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and mood disorders
- Neuropsychological evaluations to assess thinking ability in cases of dementia, concussion, or head injury
- Assistance with emotional adjustments to having cancer or a chronic medical condition
- Group and family therapy
Our psychologists guide you as you make emotional adjustments related to your medical or psychological conditions. We will call in psychiatrists or others, as needed, as we identify therapy options that will help you overcome behavioral health struggles and function better in your world.
We also can bring in social workers who can link you to community resources that will support you in improving your mental health and quality of life.
