Nathan’s Story: Back On the Road To Recovery
Nathan Myers drove his girlfriend to a concert in Cincinnati for her birthday. It was one of his first trips since getting his license. They enjoyed the show. On the way home to Brookville, though, they got into an accident. CareFlight flew Nathan from Germantown to Miami Valley Hospital’s Level I Trauma Center.
He arrived with unstable blood pressure and heart rate, had bruising from his seatbelt, and underwent ultrasound imaging of his chest and abdomen. The images showed fluid, indicating he was likely bleeding internally. He was moved to an operating room where his injuries were stabilized, before having a CT scan. The scan confirmed the trauma team’s concerns that he was suffering intracranial bleeding and skull fractures. A neurosurgeon was called to monitor him.
After discharge from the ICU, Nathan moved onto the Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio and Miami Valley Hospital North. In the hospital, he graduated from a wheelchair, to a walker, to walking. And since discharge, he’s travelled to and hiked in Alaska.
