Spiritual Care Services
A cancer diagnosis can test your emotional and spiritual strength and create stress for you and your loved ones. Premier Health chaplains are available to help support you through the challenges of cancer.
We are here for you and your family while you are receiving inpatient care or outpatient treatment, or if you are participating in a Premier Health support group. We serve people of all faiths and backgrounds, including those without a particular faith tradition.
We listen with compassion as you and your loved ones sort through the emotions, concerns, and uncertainties that come with a cancer diagnosis. We don’t tell you what you should do, think, or feel. Rather, we help you process your thoughts and feelings and
examine your priorities so you can decide what is best for you. We help you to draw upon your own strengths so you can get through this difficult time.
You may want to identify religious or spiritual practices you and your family will find helpful. Depending upon your wishes and desires, our support might include prayer, helping you connect or reconnect with a church or faith community, making arrangements for you to receive sacraments such
as confession or communion, providing inspirational or devotional resources, or helping you find a support group.
If you primarily want someone to listen, we can be a resource as you ask yourself questions such as, "Why is all this happening to me? What am I supposed to learn from this? How is my relationship with God or my Higher Power? Do I have relationships with others that I need to work on or mend?”
We also can teach you relaxation exercises, guided imagery exercises, or offer other stress management tools to help you cope.
In all cases, we’re ready to offer whatever spiritual support you need. Ask your nurse or other staff to contact us for you.
